SUMMARY:BLN Webinar: Integration of a Community-Based Early Warning System Module into DHIS2 in Cote d’Ivoire
DESCRIPTION:Recognizing the need to strengthen epidemiological surveillance of diseases at a community level, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded the MEASURE Evaluation project together with the Ministry of Health in Côte d’Ivoire, and embarked on implementing a community-based early warning system for epidemic-prone diseases such as the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), using mobile phone alerts linked to the District Health Information System v2 (DHIS2) platform. In this webinar, listen to our speaker from the Cote-d’Ivoire as he shares Côte d’Ivoire’s experience with implementing a disease surveillance system with community health workers at the center to provide an Early Warning System (EWS) using SMS alerts to the different levels of the health reporting pyramid. The speaker will discuss some of the critical issues around the integration of the EWS module within the DHIS2 and the importance of utilizing community-level personnel for effective detection of epidemic outbreaks for rapid response. The presenter will also highlight the key challenges, lessons learned in the implementation process and opportunities for improvement of the surveillance system. This presentation should be of interest to data management, health management information system, and primary health care specialists with a keen interest in integration and innovative use of data management systems.
