The WHO European Region celebrates European Immunization Week (EIW) on 20-26 April to raise awareness of the importance of immunization in preventing diseases and protecting life. This message is especially critical this year, when national immunization programmes and health providers are working to sustain routine immunization programmes while also responding to the pandemic, so that families and health systems will not suffer the additional burden of outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases including measles.
The following statements and materials highlight this message, while also thanking the health care workers on the frontline in this difficult time.
- WHO Regional Director for Europe video statement
- Statement by Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Patron of WHO/Europe
- WHO/UNICEF joint statement
- European Immunization Week 2020 campaign materials
