POST 00553E : REQUESTS FOR COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS 28 February 2003 ___________________________________________________ First, we would like to inform members that links to some CDC sites have now been added to the links page on the Technet website. _____________ As was suggested by Alasdair Wylie in Post 00551E, Alejo Bejemino (mailto:[log in to unmask]) from UNICEF/ Afghanistan kindly provided a copy of the inventory form that they use in Afghanistan. He would like to receive comments on how to improve it (his message and link below). Secondly, Samuel Kaamau (mailto:[log in to unmask]) from Kenya EPI would appreciate your advice on their injection practices (his message also below). __________________________________________________________________ I'm pleased to share with you our cold chain inventory for Afghanistan. There are still some provinces and districts for which we need to collect the information and incorporate in the inventory. The last four columns are the ones that I have mentioned (Post 00549E) regarding the maintenance records. Previously repairs, replacements and other related jobs done on the equipment have not been documented. Please feel free to comment on this. Your advice on how to make these data more useful and easy to use is very much welcome. Many thanks and best regards. Alejo to access the form, please click : http://www.technet.org/drafts/AfghanInventory.xls ___________________________________________________ I quite agree with Mary Catlin; in normal immunization practices we should completely discourage aspiration . Here in Kenya we encourage our health workers to avoid even the use of water to clean the immunization site prior to immunization because of fear of the source of water which may be contaminated and introduce some infection in the process of vaccine administration. We even encourage the vaccinators to use only dry cotton to wipe the immunization site if it really appears physically dirty. For the live attenuated vaccines we discourage the use of methylated spirit. I would like to hear some comments on our practices since we are in the process of revising our training materials. Thank you.
