POST 01250E: COLD CHAIN EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT (CCM) TOOL RELEASED 4 APRIL 2008 ******************************************* Dear Technet21 colleagues, PATH, in partnership with WHO and UNICEF, is pleased to announce the release of the Cold Chain Equipment Management (CCEM) Tool version 1.0. This MS Access-based, open source software application is designed to help plan current and future equipment needs and to manage a national inventory of cold chain equipment. The CCEM Tool facilitates implementation of conventional equipment inventory surveys, structures the data for easy analysis and generates requirement forecasts and equipment procurement lists for the national multi-year plan. This forecasting feature may be used to assess the impact on cold chain capacity and cost of introducing new vaccines, changing policies of distribution, setting policies for planned withdrawal of expired equipment and deciding equipment model preferences for each type of vaccine store. As new vaccines are introduced and as new vaccine presentations sharply increase the storage space requirements in the cold chain, it is now critical that accurate equipment inventories are established and maintained and that equipment plans take account of what exists, what should be retired and what are the optimal models of equipment to meet the needs of each store type. Similarly, as energy costs rise sharply, it is now critical to match the choice of new models of equipment to the most economic energy sources at each facility. The CCEM Tool helps managers respond to these new demands. The CCEM tool, comprising the MS Access application, User's Manual, Technical Documentation, Equipment Guide, and templates for data collection, is available at [email protected]">[email protected] ([email protected]">[email protected]).
