POST 01315E: MIS IMMUNIZATION—PROBLEM OF MULTIPLE SOFTWARES FOLLOW-UP ON POSTS: 01312E & 01314E 2 SEPTEMBER 2008 ******************************************* Dear forum, I wish to highlight the problem of multiple softwares in place at the same time, and the same information being having to be keyed in separately for each, which is ridiculous. In the north Indian State of Himachal Pradesh, a Computerised Health Management Information System has been put in place by the health department with assistance from GTZ. http://www.cbhi hsprod.nic.in/searnum.asp?PNum=161. The monthly report including immunisation is entered into the software for each subcentre, PHC, CHC. Aggregate reports at PHC level and Block level are generated by the software, which is used for monthly feedback meetings at Block level. The aggregate data is transferred (through Floppy) to District level computers, where data for institutions above Block levels are also entered, and then an aggregate district report (Form-9) is generated by the software. This enables monitoring of performance of individual health units by each higher level (and comparison with vaccine logistics). Now the RIMS is nowhere linked to this wonderful system. Stakeholders see the RIMS as a duplicate work, and why should they be asked to key in data all over again, once the data is already available in one soft copy format? The system should be made open to data sharing through export/import of data from the detailed software to the National RIMS aggregated database. We, MCC Indonesia Immunization Project, has developed a simple excel spreadsheet program to store, graph, analyze and report immunization data. The program monitors universal childhood immunization coverage by administrative unit up to village level as targeted by government of Indonesia. It is now being used by districts and health centres in project areas.
