MI4A 2017 Vaccine Purchase Data – cover note for countries
Building on the success of the Vaccine Product Price and Procurement (V3P) project, WHO launched MI4A (Market Information for Access to Vaccines) in January 2018. Like V3P, MI4A aims to strengthen national and regional capacity to access vaccine supply, leveraging country information on vaccine purchases and enhancing price transparency. In addition, MI4A expands its mandate to also enhance the understanding of global vaccine supply-demand dynamics and identify affordability and shortage risks. MI4A convenes all relevant global health partners to contribute to the development of policies, strategies and guidance to address identified risks. MI4A focuses, in particular, on addressing the needs of self-procuring countries that experience limited benefit from international support. Among these, middle-income countries (MICs) face the greatest challenge of ensuring sustainable access to vaccine supply, given their more limited financial resources.MI4A responds to calls for action from WHO Member States and the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) to address vaccine market information gaps.
