Career opportunity: Consultant for the yellow fever international samples transport operations (also known as EYE.Ops) 

The global Eliminate Yellow Fever Epidemics (EYE) Strategy was developed during the second half of 2016 by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners. This was in response to the increasing risk of large, urban, yellow fever outbreaks.

The EYE Strategy is a comprehensive, multi-component and multi-partner initiative involving up to 50 partners globally in about 40 countries. To read more about our work to eliminate yellow fever epidemics by 2026, click here.

The Secretariat for the EYE Strategy is hosted by WHO, acting through the Department of Health Emergency Interventions. Its primary role is to ensure appropriate coordination and conduct relevant monitoring and evaluation activities required to drive all aspects of the strategy forward.

Key aspects of the role 

The purpose of this consultancy is to provide EYE.Ops with data, reporting, a tutorial, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and complementary information.

The outputs of this consultancy will feed into ongoing work by the EYE Secretariat to sustain progress towards EYE's strategic objective 3: Contain outbreaks rapidly (no sustained transmission) and its first action (Detect early) (see image below).

Rapid national and international sample transportation is of critical importance to early detection and confirmation of yellow fever cases.

Experience

Essential:

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years' experience at national and international level in operations, procurement, public health, emergencies at any national or international humanitarian or commercial organization.

Desirable:

·       Experience with the World Health Organization, UN agencies or a health cluster member organization.

·       Field experience in Africa.

Skills / knowledge

Essential:

·       Deep knowledge of and ability to manage and analyze public health, financial or sample transportation data sets.

·       Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills.

·       Ability to work together as a team with a variety of stakeholders and meet deadlines.

·       Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) and remote working technologies.

Desirable:

·       Knowledge of sample transportation systems.

·       Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI.

An expert knowledge of English is required, and intermediate knowledge of French is desirable.
