The Power of Early Treatment: Aminata’s Story of Ebola Survival and How She is Using it to Help Others

By Moderator in Global initiatives 1455 views 6th Jan, 2015 Video Duration: 00:03:58
Like many West Africans afflicted with Ebola, Aminata Kargbo is believed to have contracted the virus by caring for sick relatives and touching the bodies of deceased family members. Thinking her loved ones were dying of malaria, typhoid, or any number of other diseases common in her native Sierra Leone, Aminata did not realize she was putting herself at risk by trying to help. Fortunately, when Aminata herself fell ill, she immediately consulted a doctor. That consultation set in motion a chain of events that saved her life. The doctor told Aminata to report to a local Ebola treatment center, where she was diagnosed with the virus and given rehydration fluids and medications to help her body fight it off. Thanks to her swift reporting of symptoms and commitment to her treatment plan, Aminata is now Ebola-free and has arisen as a leading voice in the promotion of early treatment for the disease.
