Join JSI and Sonder Design Collective for the second in a series of mini 30-minute webinars sharing their initial findings from The Vaccine Data Discovery Research in Kenya. This Human-Centered Design study is a joint effort between the two organizations and the Ministry of Health in Kenya, aimed at understanding the challenges around collecting and using data for decision-making in delivering immunization services. In this webinar, the team will take you through their learnings about immunization actors in the Kenyan health system. Through their system map and focusing on key actors, they will cover what decisions are made, what information they use to make these decisions and the key challenges they face along the way. For more information about the work, you can download the initial Kenya findings report. https://bit.ly/kenya-vxdel-report-2

SPEAKERS:

• Isaac Mugoya, Senior Technical Officer, Kenya - Immunization Center, JSI. Isaac has been working in immunization for more than three decades, supporting the Kenyan Ministry of Health in monitoring immunization programs, introducing new vaccines, and applying best practices.

• Emilia Klimiuk, Project Lead, Sonder Design Collective. Based in Lagos, Nigeria, Emilia is a designer and researcher specializing in applying Human-Centered Design methods to the health, microfinance, and agriculture sectors in low resource settings.

• Sarah Hassanen, Kenya Lead, Sonder Design Collective. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Sarah practices Human-Centred Design with a focus on health across multiple continents including Africa, Europe and the Middle East

• Wendy Prosser, Senior Technical Officer - Supply Chain, Immunization Center, JSI. Wendy provides technical assistance and strategic guidance on the immunization supply chain across JSI’s country teams to improve the design and management of the supply chain, create processes for data use for decision-making, and apply global best practices to the country context.

This Human-Centered Design study is a joint effort between the two organizations and the Ministry of Health in Kenya, aimed at understanding the challenges around collecting and using data for decision-making in delivering immunization services. In this webinar, the team deep dived into 3 insights around decision-making in the Kenya health system, covering perceptions around who is and is not a decision-maker, the context in which decisions are made, and how relevant information is accessed to inform these decisions. The Introducing Digital Immunization information systems - Exchange And Learning from Vietnam (IDEAL-Vietnam) is a PATH project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which has been working closely with Vietnam’s Ministry of Health in facilitating a successful transition from paper records to a completely paperless immunization record system. IDEAL Vietnam has been documenting the successes scored, challenges encountered and sharing evidence-based and data-driven learning and experience from Vietnam to inform, influence, and accelerate the successful implementation of similar tools in other countries and contexts. In this panel discussion the panelists will discuss lessons learned from Vietnam in the deployment of an electronic immunization registry (EIR) from design and development right through to national scale-up. The panelists will share the key drivers and barriers to successful deployment of EIRs while underscoring the importance of government commitment and stakeholder partnerships.

In this TechNet webinar, VillageReach and JSI discussed how supply chains can be adapted to be more responsive to the needs of under-served populations. Too often, vaccines and other essential health products are not available when and where they are needed, particularly in under-served populations. With COVID-19 disruptions to routine immunization leaving an estimated 80 million children at risk for diseases like measles, diphtheria and polio, ensuring vaccines can reach all children is more critical than ever. VillageReach has developed a four-step guide for governments and implementing partners to purposefully consider equity in supply chain design, with a particular focus on reaching four populations: the urban poor, people living in conflict settings, remote or rural populations and migrants. Join us for a review of the guidance, and an example from JSI’s work of what these adaptations can look like in practice.

This is the first PATH webinar on Introducing Digital Immunization information systems: Exchange and Learning from Vietnam (IDEAL-Vietnam) project for a webinar on scaling-up electronic immunization information systems. During the webinar the presenters discussed lessons learned from Vietnam of a successful scale-up of an electronic immunization registry (EIR) from pilot to nationwide application. Successful scale-up is not an easy feat, and the process of moving from small- to large-scale operations in Vietnam was due in part to from-the-start planning, key partnerships, government commitment, and sustained collaboration. The webinar highlighted key facilitators and barriers, and focused on important partnerships that catalyzed the success of the scale-up process. Government commitment was quintessential to the accomplishments in Vietnam, therefore it was with great excitement that the presenters for this webinar were: - Dr. Huyen Dang, Vietnam National Expanded Program on Immunization (NEPI) - Dr. Nga Nguyen Tuyet, Vietnam Country Director - Sang Dao Dinh, Vietnam Project Officer. The format of the webinar included an informational presentation, an interview with key NEPI and PATH staff members, and followed by a Q&A session. This webinar presented the findings discussed in the IDEAL-Vietnam project’s lessons learned case study that were also released in February. The vice Head of Vietnam's NEPI was also interviewed at the end of the webinar. You can find regularly updated project documents and information on IDEAL homepage https://www.technet-21.org/en/topics/ideal
