Through this webinar held in July 2016, experts from PATH and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine presented findings from the first comprehensive review of HPV vaccine delivery experiences across 46 low- and middle-income countries between 2014–2016. These experiences allowed countries to learn valuable lessons about effective methods for garnering parental acceptance and reaching young adolescent girls with the vaccine at relatively low delivery costs. The lessons learned can provide critical information for policymakers and program planners on how best to prepare, deliver, and sustain HPV vaccinations. With the onset of the Ebola epidemic, infectious waste posed an even more serious health risks to people that come in contact with it, in particular healthcare staff who are critical in containing the epidemic.

The technique used up to now in these hospitals was to gather and destroy at the back of the hospital the infected waste by burning it.

UNDP is deploying in Conakry autoclaves, that use pressurized steam at 134-135°C alternating with vacuum cycles to achieve high levels of sterilization.

Waste volumes have been growing exponentially, not only due to the rapid spread of the EBV and an increasing number of patients requiring care, but also because large quantities of personal protection equipment and disposable items being used by healthcare workers taking care of the sick and infected.
