Does anyone know how many countries in the AFRO region are using vaccine outside of the cold chain or using the controlled temperature chain?

dear Carla,

Cote d'Ivoire has not had another experience with the CTC. on the other hand, I had the oppotunity to have another experience in 2015 with the DRC. And that was good . As Anna-Léa says other countries have also experienced this CTC approach.
best wishes

Thank you for your reply Anna-Lea. It is nice to know about upcoming plans to roll out CTC for cholera in addition to the limitations for tracking the extent of CTC for off label delivery.

Kind regards,

Carla

To date, on-label delivery of vaccines in a Controlled Temperature Chain (CTC) in AFRO has been as follows :

CTC was adopted for Meningitis A vaccination (Menafrivac) campaigns in Benin (2012), Mauritania (2014), Togo (2014), Cote D'Ivoire (2014), South Sudan (2015), and DRC (2015).  Uganda piloted CTC with HPV4 (Gardasil) in 2017.  Plans are under way to roll out HPV delivery through CTC in additional countries.  A pilot to implement CTC with Oral Cholera Vaccine (Shanchol) is scheduled for Q3 of this year.

Off-label delivery is a much broader concept and given its unregulated nature, is much harder to track and quantify.

For more information on CTC, please consult https://www.who.int/immunization/programmes_systems/supply_chain/ctc/en/.

All the best,

Hi Ruth,

Has Ivory Coast used CTC since the Meningitis Campaign in 2014? Was your experience in DRC more recent? It would be nice to know about the extent this is being used in other countries as well. Perhaps other Technet  subscribers can share their experiences.

Best,

Carla

dear collegue,

I am interested in this question. In Ivory Coast, we used the temperature-controlled chain during the campaign against meningitis A with the menafrivac vaccine in 2014. I also know that other countries have used this new approach in the field. for example the DRC where I participated as a consultant.

cordially

Ruth
