POST 00695E : APPROACHES TO ELIMINATING FREEZING : HEALTH WORKERS' VIEWS Follow-up on Post 00684E and 00693E 9 July 2004 _______________________________ Robert Davis (mailto:[email protected]) from UNICEF/ESARO shares results of an opinion poll carried among Tanzanian health workers on approaches to prevent vaccine freezing. The document is attached to this message, to retain the table format and colors. Indeed Robert wrote in red in the first table ideas he considers notable according to his analysis and copied in the second table. _______________________________ At a recent meeting of district EPI staff in Arusha, 400 Tanzanian staff were asked to put down their ideas on how best to avoid freezing in freeze sensitive vaccines. There were 275 responses (some persons gave more than one response). The group came up with 42 ideas. Except for the wrapping of vaccines in paper, which is not protective, the ideas were generally sound. In the first table, all 42 are included. In the second, there is a selection of especially notable ideas, some mentioned only once among the more than 200 responses. The relatively new idea of conditioning icepacks (variously described as "have icepacks sweat before packing" or "condition the icepacks before use" is already mentioned in almost 1/10th of the responses.
