Users reported a decrease in needle stick injury and that they felt safer when using the retractable syringe. They were also more willing to treat HIV positive patients when using the syringe. In addition to safety, health workers reported time savings and reduced medical waste volume as advantages. Supervisors felt the retractable syringe improved job satisfaction. A cost analysis found use of the retractable syringe to be cost saving. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to show the cost impact of different levels of needlestick, syringe reuse, and syringe pricing. For additional information, or a copy of the complete report and cost analysis, contact Sarah McGray.
