Twenty-three speakers including 21 representatives from Member States (i.e. 15[2]), and two civil society organizations[4] and took note of the recommendations.

While Member States acknowledged successes in a few areas, most notably the absence of wild polio virus cases in the African region and more specifically in Nigeria, the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus in India and the increasing number of vaccines introduced, they took note of the fact that we are not on track to meet GVAP targets. They highlighted the need for all stakeholders, particularly national governments and technical partners, to make the needed investments and efforts to ensure that GVAP targets are achieved. Several speakers noted that access to affordable supplies of vaccines remained a persistent problem, especially for middle-income countries. Delegates also noted the problems being faced in countries facing conflicts and other crises.

The delegates also noted that an increasing number of Member States were reporting vaccine prices to the WHO database and encourage others to do likewise. Several delegates also drew attention to the resolution passed at the last Health Assembly (WHA 68.6) and requested the secretariat to report on progress against the resolution in the report to the Assembly.

So congratulations to all for the great SAGE GVAP assessment report! Next step will be the World Health Assembly in May.

Last information form the GVAP Secretariat, the call for application for the SAGE GVAP WG rotation process will be published soon.
