Thinking Globally: On 06th Nov 2014, in the training workshop on MDVP/Open vaccine vial policy, the PHC staff were sensitized about two rounds of pulse polio (NID 2015); shared the global concerns of polio eradication programme: 1. closing the population immunity gap 2. reaching the unreached especially the migrant population and 3. sustaining the high coverage through Routine Immunization. Acting Locally: In PHC Sampaje also the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) of KVG Medical College, these objectives are being achieved through Extended Immunogram. The three pronged activities: A) Rapid Backlog Clearance B) Vaccinating Close to the Schedule and the C) the MP2 i.e. – Mobile Programme for the Migrant Population started recently blended with supportive supervision and appreciative inquiry provides adequate fortification against the vaccine preventable diseases in the catchment area. And now: In the District Task Force meetings (DTF) prior to pulse polio, the District Collectors/Magistrates expect the nodal officers of multiple sectors to provide feed back of the progress of vaccination coverage on pulse polio days on hourly basis like in elections. The same was practiced in PHC Sampaje area on the booth day activity. This unit has 23 booths, 1 Transit team, 94 vaccinators; 5 supervisors and 2 Medical officers + HQ staff of Cold Chain Handler/helper/Pharmacist and the drivers excluding the college staffs – me and the interns posted. Process: Data collected and transmitted over phone by the booth coordinator to the respective supervisors who further transmitted to the MOH. This is the 41st round since Dec 1995 and the programme is highly seasoned. 2 slides depicting the performance is prepared and shared with the MO PHC/Staff/DIO(RCHO) and SMO of NPSP Mysore unit. The same I wish to share with the techNet-21 viewers as a template line diagram of any good performing planning unit. Remaining children will be reached in the 2 days H-t-H activity on 19th and 20th Jan.

The first round of pulse polio is completed and gearing up for the second round in Feb 2015 between 22 to 24 in the rural area. The final line diagram and histogram was plotted including 2 days house to house activity. The performance of February round will be used in preparing the Micro-plan review forms 1 and 2 in 2016. Since several years it has become a routine and customary to “fill the forms” without giving due importance as fine tuning of micro-plan has reached a saturation. The basic planning forms 4A and 4B do not have the basic denominators of the programme – POPULATION; >5yr CHILDREN and HOUSES: booth-wise/team-wise and day-wise. Hence a workable format is developed and the ANMs' filled their performance data on the evening of pulse polio days, rehearsed in this round. On obtaining the data of Feb round, Micro-plan Review forms 1 & 2 for the coming NID in 2016 will be made ready with genuine data. Sample from 5 booths entered in the 9th slide - both as vision and mission. 9 slider PPT is attached which may be useful in the training sessions as a live example of any good performing Planning unit.
