IDAC Roundup and May Registration

The IIS Data Analyst Collaborative (IDAC) is a discussion-based offering where participants explore topics relevant to IIS data. Held quarterly on the third Thursday of the month from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, each session offers a space for conversation and peer learning. Participation is limited to encourage meaningful dialogue and to give both new and experienced analysts the chance to ask questions and share insights with the community.

Since February 2024, five IDAC sessions have been held. Topics, takeaway notes, and recordings from past sessions are listed below.

The next IDAC session will take place on May 15, 2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET. The discussion will focus on data cleansing, including improving demographics, fragmented records, issues with merging records, and the best ways to address “moved or gone elsewhere” (MOGE). To register for the event, follow the link here

IDAC Session Resources:

Session takeaways and recordings are also posted to the IIS Data Analyst Forum (IDAF). IDAF is an online forum where people who work with IIS data can talk, access additional resources, check out publications, and post and answer questions.

Open Information Request

  • The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services is seeking information regarding Medicaid ID. Is your IIS storing Medicaid ID? If so:
  • How is this information updated and maintained?
  • How is this information used? For example, is it used to support patient matching for HEDIS extracts?
  • Do you have lessons learned to share regarding storage and use of Medicaid ID?

If you are willing to share any relevant information, please respond to David Crowell at Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. April 2025 ACIP Meeting Highlights

Background

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met on April 15–16 to discuss the following vaccines: mpox, Lyme disease, influenza, COVID-19, pneumococcal, human papillomavirus (HPV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), meningococcal, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) – adults and maternal/pediatric, and chikungunya.

Summary of Votes

Below is a summary of the votes that took place.

Meningococcal vaccines

  • ACIP recommends GSK’s MenABCWY vaccine (Penmenvy®) may be used when both MenACWY and MenB are indicated at the same visit. This applies to:
    • Healthy persons aged 16–23 years (routine schedule) when shared clinical decision making favors administration of MenB vaccine
    • Persons aged ≥10 years who are at increased risk for meningococcal disease (e.g., because of persistent complement deficiencies, complement inhibitor use, or functional or anatomic asplenia)
  • A Vaccines for Children (VFC) program resolution to incorporate a new combination pentavalent vaccine to prevent meningococcal disease was passed.

RSV adult

  • ACIP recommends adults 50–59 years of age who are at increased risk of severe RSV disease receive a single dose of RSV vaccine.
    • CDC will publish “Clinical Considerations” that describe chronic medical conditions and other risk factors for severe RSV disease for use in this risk-based recommendation.
    • The risk factors for 50- to 59-year-olds will be the same as the current risk factors for 60- to 74-year-olds.
    • At this time, RSV vaccination is recommended as a single dose only. A further RSV vaccination is NOT recommended for persons who have already received another dose.
    • RSV vaccine can be administered with any product licensed in this age group.

Chikungunya vaccines

Three votes for chikungunya vaccines took place.

  • Vote 1:
    • ACIP recommends virus-like particle chikungunya vaccine for persons aged ≥12 years traveling to a country or territory where there is a chikungunya outbreak.
    • In addition, virus-like particle chikungunya vaccine may be considered for persons aged ≥12 years traveling or taking up residence in a country or territory without an outbreak but with elevated risk for U.S. travelers planning travel for an extended period of time—e.g., six months or more.
  • Vote 2:
    • ACIP recommends virus-like particle chikungunya vaccine for laboratory workers with potential for exposure to chikungunya virus.
    • This is consistent with language of recommendation for vaccination of laboratory workers with live attenuated chikungunya vaccine approved by ACIP in February 2024.
  • Vote 3:
    • ACIP recommends live attenuated chikungunya vaccine for persons aged ≥18 years traveling to a country or territory where there is a chikungunya outbreak.
    • In addition, live attenuated chikungunya vaccine may be considered for persons aged ≥18 years traveling or taking up residence in a country or territory without an outbreak but with elevated risk for U.S. travelers planning travel for an extended period of time—e.g., six months or more.
    • An age of ≥65 years is a precaution for use of CHIK-LA.

Impact on IIS

Clinical decision support for immunization (CDSi) rules are regularly developed and reviewed. Updates are typically available shortly after the ACIP recommendations become official and sufficient online material has been published.

Presentation slides are available on the ACIP website. The next scheduled ACIP meeting will be held June 25–26.
