Enhance Data Quality with M&I’s DAR Content Area
|
|
Are you looking for a no-cost opportunity to explore the quality of patient-level and vaccine-level data within your IIS? AIRA and Measurement for Assessment and Certification Advisory Workgroup (MACAW) invite all IIS to participate in the Measurement and Improvement (M&I) initiative. This initiative includes the Data at Rest (DAR) content area, offering valuable insights.
Since its launch into Assessment in February 2022, DAR focuses on evaluating completeness, validity, and timeliness of IIS data for 0- to 2-year-olds. Participating IIS can benchmark their data against national and community-set quality standards, access IIS-wide and provider-level reports to drive improvement efforts, and achieve key milestones aligned with the IPOM’s Chapter D activity to “analyze provider and IIS-level patient demographic and vaccination data.”
In 2024, 25 jurisdictions participated in the DAR Assessment, and we invite you to join them as testing for 2025 gets underway. AIRA staff are available to provide technical assistance and consultation to support your efforts. Most IIS complete the DAR process within one week.
To kick off a new year of testing, AIRA has updated IIS participation materials, now available in the AIRA Repository.

March SnapShots Has Arrived
|
|
The March edition of SnapShots is officially here! This quarter’s newsletter highlights a variety of articles, including a look at the Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC) and its role in helping childcare centers complete their annual immunization report. You’ll also find an overview of the Rhode Island Child and Adult Immunization Registry (RICAIR) and the impact of leveraging AIRA’s deduplication guides, as well as an opportunity to learn more about the National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS). To wrap up this edition, the Tech Corner explores common artificial intelligence (AI) terms and misconceptions.
In case you missed it, we are currently accepting articles for our next edition of SnapShots! If you or a colleague have content you’d like to share with the IIS community, we encourage you to submit it for consideration by Monday, April 14.

Board Spotlight: Getting to Know David Mattiko
|
|
The Board Spotlight provides both AIRA staff and the IIS community with the opportunity to learn a little about each AIRA Board member. This month, we’re getting to know David Mattiko, AIRA Board IIS Director and Director of the Division of Immunizations Information Systems and Technology in the Bureau of Immunizations in the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
What was your favorite job in high school or college? Or, on the flip side, was there one that you were not fond of?
The summer after my senior year in high school, I cut greens and tees at Oakmont Country Club where this year's U.S. Open will be held and was allowed to play on Mondays after outings. After that one year, I switched to a different country club and again could play on Mondays but was allowed to bring a guest and would golf with my dad each Monday.
If you had a time machine, would you choose to travel to the past or to the future? Why?
Travel to the past. Hopefully, I would learn from my mistakes in life and also relive and cherish the times with loved ones who have passed, and daughters who grow up too fast.
What’s your favorite dessert?
Cheesecake.
If you could eat only one cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Asian cuisine. So much variety: sushi, Thai food, pho, summer rolls...
If you had the option to live to 90 and retain either the mind or the body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you choose?
Definitely body. No fun being sore all the time, and would want to be able to continue the same physical activities and hobbies I enjoy.
If you could instantly become an expert in any skill, what would it be?
Mechanic. It would be so helpful to be able to work on my own truck and small engine repairs on mowers and other tools around the house.

What’s one thing on your bucket list that you haven’t done yet?
Travel to Europe. We are planning to visit Germany and Poland this summer, although I need to get moving on making those plans!!
What’s one key takeaway you’ve gained from participating in an AIRA workgroup or committee?
The diverse knowledge, expertise, and skill sets of the various members.
What’s your favorite part of being on the AIRA Board? For those who are newer to the Board, what has been a highlight or something that has stood out to you so far?
Helping to determine the future of AIRA and to assist all jurisdictions with issues they are facing, which your own jurisdiction may not be experiencing now but could in the future.
Are there any new initiatives or projects your organization is currently working on that you’d be willing to share?
We have recently begun to slowly roll out the use of our public portal. Initial usage has been light, but we hope to promote and expand usage in the near future.
