Vaccination Week in the Americas 2025
From 26 April to 3 May 2025, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), together with the countries and territories of the Region of the Americas and its partners, celebrated the 23rd annual Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) under the slogan “Your Decision Makes a Difference.”
The 2025 campaign was aligned with and supported the Elimination Initiative (EI), which aims to accelerate the elimination of more than 30 communicable diseases and related conditions by 2030—11 of which are vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs). Each year during VWA, more than 40 countries and territories across the Americas joined efforts to vaccinate their populations, with a special focus on reaching those who may not have regular access to health services, including Indigenous peoples, migrants, border communities, and people living on the urban fringe. Multiple events and extended service hours were implemented to allow more people to receive missing vaccines at more convenient times and locations.
VWA 2025 Goals
For the 2025 campaign, 45 countries and territories planned to administer 66.5 million vaccine doses. Seasonal influenza vaccination was prioritized, with more than 28 million doses expected to be delivered. Some countries continued administering COVID-19 vaccines to protect their populations against the still-circulating virus, with 12.3 million COVID-19 doses projected.
As measles began circulating widely in the Region once again, countries aimed to deliver 2.7 million doses of measles-containing vaccines. The elimination of cervical cancer— a key priority for PAHO and the Region—took center stage, with 17.8 million doses of HPV vaccines planned for girls and boys.
