POST 00690E : WASTE MANAGEMENT EVALUATION
Follow-up on Posts 00665E and 00675E

It is true that Health Care Waste should be treated in a global and
integrated manner. However, this requires qualified human resources,
sophisticated techniques, and all that with financial implications. With
the little means at the disposal of Health Care in our developing
countries, it would be rather difficult to implement such a vision. But
should we just stand by and do nothing about it?
Personally, I think no, and I believe it will be good to start with
something. With the danger of used syringes and needles, and through the
new dynamic of EPI, Senegal has undertaken the treatment of sharps waste.
It would not make sense to limit ourselves to EPI sharps thus in Senegal it
concerns all used syringes and needles.
To assess this kind of system, one needs to revisit the objectives that had
been defined and the situation at the start as well as the end ( = time T
of the evaluation).
