Title of the session: Health Workforce – How to Address the Bottlenecks
Most countries have begun COVID-19 vaccination, and revised global targets include the objective of reaching 40% of the population in LICs and LMICs by the end of 2021 and 70% global population vaccination by June 2022. Accordingly, Member States are encouraged to revise their target populations, as well as human and financial resource strategies in their COVID-19 NDVPs.
Many countries face pre-existing health workforce shortages, and these have been exacerbated by illness, death, mental health issues, burnout, stress, and departures from service due to violence, harassment and lack of pay and decent working conditions. Simultaneously, health workers and their managers are balancing the triple demands of COVID-19 response, catching up and maintaining essential health services, and delivering COVID-19 vaccines. All labour has a cost. All labour for vaccination teams has financial resource implications, even when this is through deployment of other public sector personnel and internal cost transfer.
In this webinar, moderated by WHO Health Systems Connector lead Dr Patrick Zuber, panelists will discuss how to calculate the human and financial resources needed, options for scaling up workers, including with civil society organizations, and avenues to identify and allocate the resources to support the critical ambition of #VaccinEquity.
Interpretation into French and Spanish will be available
