Scaling Adolescent Immunity: Multi-Age Cohort HPV Vaccination Campaigns in West Africa—Evidence from Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone
📢 New Publication | Scaling Adolescent Immunity Through HPV Vaccination in West Africa
We are pleased to share our latest publication in Vaccines, which highlights lessons from multi-age cohort HPV vaccination campaigns (MAC) in four West African countries- Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone that reached over 6.3 million girls, achieving 85.5% coverage.
The study demonstrates that high-coverage adolescent immunization is achievable, even in resource-constrained settings, through strong political commitment, cross-sector collaboration, community engagement, and robust implementation systems.
Key takeaways for programme managers:
- Invest early in planning, training, logistics, and communication.
- Combine school-based delivery with strategies to reach out-of-school girls.
- Leverage real-time monitoring to identify and address gaps quickly.
- Harness the opportunities offered by the single-dose HPV schedule.
As countries accelerate efforts to eliminate cervical cancer, these experiences provide practical evidence that scale, equity, and impact can be achieved together.
