Addressing Gender Barriers to Improve Routine Immunization in Fragile and Humanitarian Settings: Lessons from implementation
This practical resource, based on lessons from gender-responsive programming in fragile and humanitarian settings, is intended to support project implementers, funders, and other stakeholders in their ongoing efforts to improve routine immunization for the hardest to reach.
It outlines illustrative gender barriers affecting access to and uptake of immunization services in fragile and humanitarian settings. These barriers—including mobility constraints, social norms, and competing responsibilities for caregivers—are not unique to humanitarian situations but are often amplified and more complex in these contexts. Insights from local organizations informed 11 strategies that project implementers and other stakeholders can employ to reduce or overcome those barriers.
