Vaccination can only be effective if vaccines are stored under the proper temperature conditions. In Senegal, despite significant investments in cold chain equipment, monitoring equipment performance and ensuring timely maintenance remained major challenges.

To address this issue, the Ministry of Health, with support from PATH, developed the CCE/EPI Tracker, a digital solution integrated into the DHIS2 platform. Deployed across seven districts in three regions of the country (Diourbel, Kolda, and Tambacounda), the tool enables real-time monitoring of equipment temperatures, planning and documentation of maintenance interventions, and management of spare parts through dashboards accessible at district, regional, and national levels.

During this webinar, participants learned how this DHIS2 integration goes beyond simply deploying equipment by strengthening monitoring, maintenance, and data-driven decision-making. The results are already evident, with platform utilization increasing from 50% to over 90%, along with significantly improved visibility into the status and performance of cold chain equipment.

This experience demonstrates how digital transformation can substantially enhance cold chain performance and provide sustainable support to immunization programs, while also offering valuable lessons for other countries seeking to modernize the management of their cold chain equipment.
