CHWs & Immunization
In our increasingly interconnected world, where infectious diseases can travel from a remote village to a major city within 36 hours, preventing and controlling disease outbreaks is a matter of global and national health security. As the international aid landscape continues to shift, investing in the most cost-effective interventions is more critical than ever.
Vaccination remains one of the most effective public health interventions. Every dollar spent, yields significant returns by reducing the disease burden and improving overall public health outcomes. Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has exemplified this impact, expanding access to immunization in lower-income countries and saving millions of lives, particularly among children.
Yet challenges persist. The growing number of zero-dose and under-immunized children globally, coupled with chronic human resources for health (HrH) shortages, demand innovative approaches to service delivery that can dramatically improve comprehensive vaccination coverage. One proven, cost-effective strategy is to elevate and expand the role of community health workers (CHWs) across the entire vaccine service delivery spectrum.
