DECEMBER 4, 2024

Greetings and Happy Holidays!

As 2024 comes to a close and we look ahead to the opportunities and challenges that the new year may bring, I want to take a moment to thank you for your support and celebrate our collective achievements this year.

The call for abstracts for the AIRA 2025 National Meeting closed on November 17. Volunteers and staff are already hard at work reviewing all of the outstanding submissions. If you submitted an abstract for consideration, please note that the abstract notifications will be sent on Tuesday, January 21.

On November 18, AIRA held the M&I Discovery Session: Patient Matching | A Town Hall. Thank you to all of you who attended and provided valuable feedback on the Measures and Tests for Patient Matching – HL7 document. And while December is sure to be a busy month, don’t forget to add the December 16 Discovery Session, Introduction to the 2024 Immunization Information Systems Annual Report (IISAR), to your calendar!

Looking Ahead

  • The Joint Public Health informatics Taskforce  (JPHIT) meeting will take place December 2–4 in Washington, D.C.
  • The annual Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ASTP/ONC) meeting will be held on December 4
  • AIRA’s Nathan Bunker will visit France for Système d’Aide à la Décision Médicale (SYADEM) from December 4–13
  • The International Vaccine Code initiative (IVC) meeting will take place on December 9
  • The Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) Leadership in Action Conference will be held December 9–12 in New Orleans

Wishing everyone a very merry holiday season and a happy new year!

Warm regards,

Rebecca Coyle, MSEd

Executive Director

Register for the December Discovery Session

Join us on Monday, December 16, from 4 to 5 p.m. ET for the final AIRA Discovery Session of the year, with presentations by Terence Ng and Lauren Shaw (CDC) on the 2024 Immunization Information Systems Annual Report (IISAR).

This annual assessment captures key insights from all 64 immunization program awardees, covering the 50 states, five major cities, D.C., and eight territories. With the IISAR launching in January 2025, now is the perfect time to get an inside look at the survey tool, understand what’s new this year, and get answers to your questions.

This session is essential for anyone involved in IIS work or anyone interested in learning about this vital data collection process. Don’t miss out on this chance to get a jump-start on the upcoming IISAR. We hope you’ll join us on December 16!

Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email with links to add the meeting to your calendar. If you’re unable to attend, this session will be recorded and available in the AIRA Repository.

Important Changes Ahead: Smarty License Upgrade

Important changes are coming to the Smarty address cleansing service license currently provided by AIRA to members through a partner agreement. Beginning late November 2024, AIRA’s license will be upgraded from the legacy Standard Edition of the US Address Verification service to the Core Edition of the US Address Verification service. This transition to the Core Edition provides additional benefits, including enhanced matching and access to 20 million non-USPS addresses. Non-postal addresses are locations where people live and work. These addresses are places where USPS does not deliver mail but where packages can be delivered.

Once the license upgrade is complete, Smarty users will need to update their API call to Smarty. We will share more detailed information in the coming weeks so please stay tuned for more updates as we begin the transition to the updated service!
