If 30 DTR is  kept inside the refrigerator to  monitor the vaccine temperature, do we need to keep freeze alert  or freeze tag also together with 30 DTR or not?

Can some one help to respone.

Thank you

Greeting,

If you are using the 30DTR (Fridge-tag 2), you do not need to use a Freeze-tag in the same refrigerator. The 30DTR already records low-temperature alarms when the temperature drops below –0.5°C for 60 minutes, which is the same freeze-sensitivity threshold monitored by the Freeze-tag (Green). Therefore, the 30DTR provides the same alert you would receive from a Freeze-tag for freeze exposure.

30-day electronic temperature loggers (30 DTR) are placed with vaccine load in a vaccine refrigerator. They record the refrigerator temperature at no more than 10-minutes intervals and show the temperature history for any day in the last 30 days. They also record and display a 30-day history of any heat and freeze alarms that have occurred. Alarms are triggered if the temperature of the refrigerator drops to -0.5oC or below for 60 minutes or if it exceeds +10oC for a continuous period of 10 hours. As long as the temperature has remained within the recommended range, the device displays ‘OK’ or a tick symbol.

Electronic freeze indicators are placed with freeze-sensitize vaccine during transport or storage. The device has a visual indicator that shows whether the vaccine has been exposed to freezing temperatures.

NOTE THAT ELECTRONIC FREEZE INDICATOR ARE NOT USED IN REFRIGERATORS WHERE A 30 DTR IS USED.

I hope this will help.

Dear Tshewang

Good question - and there is no straight forward answer.

In every refrigerator, the temperatures at the bottom, the middle and the top section, are slightly different. Even though the display says 4°C, it is possible the top is at 6°C and the bottom at 2°C.

These differences may also increase due to several factors such as icing, bad vaccine load conditions etc, so there may be instances where temperatures get close or below 0°C.

The 30DTR is naturally positioned at the top so users can easily see and verify it, but the problem with that is, it only shows you the temperature in that specific spot, and not in others,

so you may think everything is ok, but it is not.

Modern ILRs do come with freeze protection and technically everything should be ok. What I would recommned to do, is to switch the position of 30DTR regularly also to the lower sections of the fridge, and by doing so, you get an idea of how the temperature profile is and if there are any weak spots.

Most important is to make sure the fridge is regularly undergoing routine maintenance, by cleaning the condenser and compressor compartment and also making sure it is not iced up inside and the lid gasket seals well, by doing so you can expect always the same performance from your refrigerator.

Feel free to reach out if you need more info.

Dear Sir,

I hope this email finds you well.
The 30DTR alone is enough to give you the records of all excursions including freezing.

There is no need for you to add a freeze tag in the equipment. The freeze tags can be used during transport since the 30DTR is best used in storage.

Thank you.
