A recent joint publication in the Weekly Epidemiological Review (WER) and the MMWR has provided an overview of the most recent official global coverage rates, as they have been summarized in the WHO UNICEF Estimation of National Immunization Coverage (WUENIC). In addition, the publication included a more detailed look at the vaccination practices in the second year of life, where many countries provide second routine doses (eg. routine measles second dose - MSD or MCV2, DTP booster doses, or completions of primary schedules in the second year of life. The GVAP has explicitly called on the immunization community to expand the routine immunization concept beyond the age group of less than one year.
