How many single-dose IPV vials and 5-dose of measles vaccine vials can be stored in a net one litre space in a combo refrigerator?

Dear Tshewang,

We have had two labs for IPV five dosis per vial, one of them is Bilthoven with a box of 4,01 liters with 280 vials, i.e 1.400 dosis. En each refrigerator you can storage 348,6 dosis per liter. The only thing is the box doesn´t fit inside the basquets of the refrigerator.

The second one is Sinovac with a box of 40 vials with a volume of 0,882 litres. This is 226,7 dosis per liter. This secundary box is more practical to fit inside the basquets of the refrigerator.

I suggest you calculate the capacity per basquet 5, 7 or 9 basquets depends of the refrigerator, or vaccine carrier.

Greetings.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for sending the reference to calculate vaccine volume and cold chain capacity

Dear Tshewang,

Please refer to the VMH module on "How to calculate Vaccine Volumes and Cold Chain Capacity Requirements", available in English and French, for detailed guidance. In particular, Chapter 3 Calculating cold chain capacity.
https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/WHO-IVB-17.06

Normally this calculation is made the other way around (not 'how many vials can fit' but 'how much space do I need for my vaccine storage requirements'). It will be simpler and more accurate if both the vaccines and the CCE are WHO-prequalified, as net storage capacity values for WHO-prequalified refrigerators and freezers, as well as vaccine primary, secondary, and tertiary storage volumes, are all available on the WHO PQS websites:

https://extranet.who.int/prequal/vaccines
https://extranet.who.int/prequal/immunization-devices

Hope this helps.
