We also attach a copy of the agenda and Dropbox repository, in case there are specific speakers you would like to see. This year’s meeting covered the following key points:
- Our achievements and challenges of the past year, particularly in the COVID context, and the subsequent adaptations to approaches to delivering the EYE strategy
- The evolution of the partnership, and the strategy’s overall achievements to date:
- Over 157 million people protected against yellow fever (YF) in Africa since EYE's inception
- which includes over 48 million people protected against YF in Africa in 2020 despite COVID, through preventive, reactive and catch-up campaigns (Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda)
- Stronger laboratory capacity in Africa, with faster confirmation
- Increasing engagement with the strategy at 3 levels (country, regional and global) and in 3 regions
- Innovations and tools for streamlined, transparent and risk-informed decisions
- Marked YF vaccine supply increase and confidence in production
- 135 million doses (Md) available globally in 2019 (of which 85 Md for Africa), 150 Md in 2020
- Better ways of quantifying and managing YF outbreaks
- Accelerating and sustaining high levels of routine immunization coverage to prevent YF re-emergence, such as in West Africa
We appreciate your ongoing commitment, and wish you a peaceful and safe holiday season, and look forward to seeing you again in the new year. Best wishes.
