POST 00683E : VACCINE FORECAST Follow-up on Posts 00649E, 00662E, 00671E and 00672E 7 June 2004 ____________________________________________________________ Michel Zaffran (mailto:[email protected]) from WHO makes a statement on the issue of vaccine forecast _____________________________________________________________ There has been a lot of debate on this forum on the issue of ways and formula use to project/forecast vaccine requirements. Indeed, problems/vaccine shortages have been faced by countries in the past couple of years in relation to the introduction of new vaccines supported by GAVI/The vaccine Fund. However, we believe that most of the debate has been caused by misunderstandings and lack of clarity in some of the messages. We propose to try and bring this debate to closure with the following attached statement which described WHO recommended approach to vaccine needs forecasting. If the reader of the forum do not find the attached guidelines clear, it would be useful if messages could be addressed directly to WHO/IVB/Access to Technologies team (mailto:[email protected]) so that we can improve it. Note : the request for new and under-used vaccines used in the GAVI annual report forms (http://www.vaccinealliance.org/home/Sup ... r_acts.php) has now been modified to be consistent with the formula described in the attached guidelines. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Visit the TECHNET21 Website at http://www.technet21.org You will find instructions to subscribe, a direct access to archives, links to reference documents and other features. ______________________________________________________________________________ To UNSUBSCRIBE, send a message to : mailto:[email protected] Leave the subject area BLANK In the message body, write unsubscribe TECHNET21E ______________________________________________________________________________ The World Health Organization and UNICEF support TechNet21.
