POST 00910E : VACCINE WASTAGE Follow-up on Posts 00889E, 00894E, 00899E and 00906E 11 April 2006 __________________________________ This posting contains a contribution from Sridharan Rangachari (mailto:[email protected]) from India. __________________________________ I fully agree with Anthony's view: "The quantity of Hepatitis B vaccine "wasted" by Nigeria in 2004 would be enough to meet the needs of all the adjacent countries plus Togo, Guinea Bissau, Burkina Faso and Central African Republic." When I was with PATH in India, I tried my level best through my project activities to market HBV in Uniject by two Indian companies. One could succeed in the Urban market but felt it is a long way to go for promoting this in the international area. PATH has proved by a study in Indonesia that by marketing HBV in Uniject the wastage can be considerably reduced. What is the current standing of UNICEF on getting HBV in Uniject? If UNICEF can offer a good price, maybe we can influence the Indian company to promote the same! Any thoughts?
