about the SolarChill refrigerator. He rightly raises the cost issue.

Dear All,
My compliments to Carib Nelson, This is the most wonderful piece of
information relating to cold chain.
I have following querries :
What is the working of the solar chill in situtaion where ambient
temperatures are above 40°C?
The site does not inform how it functions.
What would be the maintance cost, spares and related issues?
Such a solar chill refrigerator would be a boom in most developing
countries including India not only for the immunization program but also
for domestic food chain.
The cost in comparison is quite high - local domestic refrigerator
CFC-free costs 6-7 000 Rs while solar chill would be 75000/ Rs as per
mentioned price, so it will not make economic sense to buy at 10 times
more plus costs of spares, repairs and manpower to handle the same, given
that accummulated losses due to interrupted electricity over a period of 5
years will be far less than one-time cost of the solar chill.
With lower maintenance and spares cost, then this would be viable not only
for immunization program but also for domestic use in INDIA and most
countries.
Solar chill must tie up with large manufacturers and play the domestic use
card, (Chill- refrigerate without electricity - the 101st wonder of the
world this is a suggested selling line). That is the market where
manufacturers get their volumes.
Thanks and best wishes,
Anil Varshney,
New Delhi
