Webinar Announcement: Measles in Rockland County, NY – The Local Health Department’s Outbreak Response Measles is a highly contagious virus in which one infected person can potentially infect 9 out of 10 exposed, unprotected individuals. As of October 2019, the US reported the greatest number of measles cases since 1992. The on-going US measles outbreaks have drawn national and international attention as the country’s measles elimination status was threatened. Though outbreaks and cases occurred in several states across the country, the majority of cases (75%) were linked to outbreaks in New York. Due to successful public health interventions, Rockland County and the other affected counties in New York State have since declared their measles outbreaks over. Join NACCHO and the County of Rockland Commissioner of Health, Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, to learn about Rockland County Health Department’s measles outbreak response. At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Characterize the impact of the measles outbreak on the Rockland County community
- Explain strategies employed by the local health department to contain the measles outbreak
