New Year, New Opportunities – Register for #AIRA2024
|
|
Happy New Year!
It’s officially 2024, and I hope the holiday season gave everyone some time to recharge and spend time with loved ones. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed some much-needed downtime and skiing at some of our favorite local spots.
At AIRA, we closed out our year by attending the AIM and ONC meetings. During the AIM meeting December 5–7, great discussions were had around adult vaccine programs, increasing childhood vaccine rates, and the implementation of maternal RSV. Those who attended were also given the opportunity to hear Scott Hamilton Kennedy present his film, Shot in the Arm, followed by a wonderful keynote address given by Dr. Peter Hotez where he discussed his new book, The Deadly Rise of Anti-Science.

December 14–15, Eric Larson attended the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) meeting in Washington, D.C. The meeting celebrated the go-live of the Trust Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) and the release of the HTI-1 final rule. In addition to the festive mood for the recent ONC activities, many new areas of focus were highlighted. Major themes included the critical importance of data, the role of health IT in President Biden’s cancer moonshot, expanding health IT to include human services data (e.g. social determinants of health), CDC’s Implementation Center Request for Proposal (RFP), and rooting out racial bias in artificial intelligence.
As we look forward to January 2024, there are a couple of dates you should be sure to add to your calendars. On January 22, AIRA will be holding the first Discovery Session of the year. Register and join us as we learn about the Immunization Data Exchange, Advancement and Sharing (IDEAS) project. For those of you who submitted abstracts for consideration for the AIRA 2024 National Meeting, speaker notifications will be sent on January 29.
May the new year bring peace, laughter, and success to all.
Rebecca Coyle, MSEd Executive Director

We encourage you to take some time to read this report, and of course, we would like to thank you for your support as we continue to advance IIS together. You’re Invited to Participate in M&I’s Latest Content Area
|
|
Interested in improving the data quality of patient-level and vaccine-level data elements within your IIS? All IIS are invited to participate in M&I’s (Measurement and Improvement Initiative) latest content area, Data at Rest (DAR). This content area includes three sets of measures to assess completeness, validity, and timeliness of IIS data for newborns to 2-year-olds. Participating IIS can see how their IIS data align with national and community data quality standards, obtain IIS-wide and provider-level reports to guide improvement efforts, and achieve strategy successes related to the IPOM’s Chapter D activity to “analyze provider and IIS level patient demographic and vaccination data.” Check out the July 2023 AIRA Discovery Session to learn about DAR participation and see a demo of the DAR tooling from AIRA specialists using real reports from Arizona. Thanks again to Arizona for sharing their reports with the community.
AIRA, CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), and MACAW (the Measurement and Assessment Certification Advisory Workgroup) have updated IIS participation materials for the new year, which are now available in AIRA’s repository. Interested IIS can update their M&I participation in DAR via AART (Aggregate Analysis Reporting Tool) or submit AIRA’s online form to get started.
