September 12 ACIP Meeting Highlights

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met on September 12 to discuss COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for the 2023–2024  virus season. The ACIP expressed support for simplifying COVID-19 vaccine recommendations through a universal vaccine recommendation.

ACIP recommends 2023–2024 (monovalent, XBB containing) COVID-19 vaccines as authorized under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) or approved by Biologics License Application (BLA) in persons 6 months of age and older.

The Bridge Access Program will serve as temporary bridge for the 25–30 million adults ages 18–64 years without insurance and the additional adults whose insurance will not cover all COVID-19 vaccines after these products are commercialized. A more permanent and comprehensive Vaccines for Adults Program has been proposed in the FY23 and FY24 president’s budgets.

Impact on IIS

Clinical Decision Support for Immunization (CDSi) rules are regularly developed and reviewed. Updates are typically available shortly after publication of ACIP recommendations in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

The next ACIP meeting to discuss maternal RSV vaccines will be held this Friday, September 22. The regularly scheduled ACIP meeting will take place October 25–27.

IIP Data Validation Resources

The Immunization Integration Program (IIP) is pleased to share three new resources available to immunization data exchange partners. The IIP Collaborative’s Data Validation Workgroup developed resources and tools to help immunization data exchange partners train their workforce, foster communication, and validate their data prior to submission to the IIS. Top Five Strategies for Improving Immunization Data Quality at the Point of Care is a user-friendly infographic that highlights five key strategies and related resources to support improving immunization data quality and reducing the number of rejections. Training Resources for Vaccine Data Entry Users lists training resources that promote best practices for data validation in the electronic health record (EHR) prior to submission to the IIS. Data Entry Error Guide Template is intended for use by immunization information systems (IIS) to develop a short list of errors that may occur when users enter data into their organization’s EHR/health information technology system(s) that interface with an IIS, and ways to avoid them, that may occur when users enter data into their organization’s EHR/health information technology system(s) that interface with an IIS. In addition to a jurisdiction’s immunization data exchange implementation guide, this list is shared with provider organizations with, or working to achieve, an interface with an IIS. The IIP is available to help implement data validation strategies. Contact the IIP at Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs.
