Tools for monitoring integrated public health interventions, vaccination and deworming for geohelminthiasis

Vaccination and deworming are interventions of proven benefit to improve the well-being of the population and reduce health gaps, so strategies should be sought to guarantee effective access and ensure systematic monitoring and analysis of their coverage.

The Special Program for Integrated Immunization (CIM) together with the Unit for Neglected Tropical and Vector-borne Diseases of the Americas Region have published the self-learning course "Tools for monitoring integrated public health interventions, vaccination and deworming for geohelminthiasis" on the Pan American Health Organization's Virtual Public Health Campus platform[1] .

The tools presented in this course are the result of the review and integration of concepts and methodologies that take advantage of experiences and lessons learned in the countries to facilitate the monitoring of vaccination coverage of the regular immunization schedule, deworming, and other priority public health interventions at the local, subnational and national levels. It is expected that the concepts, methods, and tools developed in each module will be incorporated into the processes of monitoring, continuous improvement of data quality, analysis of information, and timely use to expand coverage, make decisions, and carry out interventions that provide effective access to health.

The self-learning course, available in English[2] and Spanish[3] is aimed at health professionals and technicians, administrative staff, health authorities, and all those involved in the management, analysis, and monitoring of vaccination coverage, deworming, or other public health interventions. Participants can progress through the modules at their own pace, regulating their own time and dedication. To date, more than 1,600 users from different countries around the world have registered.
