The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) hosted the 31st inter-country meeting of the National Managers of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and meeting of the Regional Technical Advisory Group (RTAG) on immunization, EMR.

The meeting was held from 21st – 24th November 2022 in Cairo, Egypt.

 The meeting objectives were the following:

  • Discuss the overview of the current situation of EPI including the impact of the pandemic;
  • Discuss the overview of the current situation of diseases eradication, elimination and control including the impact of the pandemic;
  • Share experiences and lessons from the COVID-19 response to benefit for improving the routine immunization coverage and the VPDs combating;
  • Updates for the SAGE recommendations/guidelines and other global WHO guideline especially with regard to the integrated health services;
  • Develop recommendations/guidelines for the countries to improve the EPI system and capitalize on experience of COVID-19 for expansion effectively the life course immunization.  

Discussions took place around global and regional updates on immunization coverage, life course immunization, new vaccines, tools and advisory bodies, the Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030), VPD eradication, elimination and control.

The meeting was attended by national EPI managers from countries of WHO EMRO, chairpersons of National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs), RTA on Immunization, WHO staff from country, regional and headquarters levels, and representatives of different partners, including GAVI, UNICEF, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and CSOs namely Global Health Development (GHD).
