The USAID Medicines Technologies and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) Program is pleased to announce the availability of the above course through the Philippines Department of Health (DOH) Academy https://learn.doh.gov.ph/ (You need to register and then enrol in the ‘Gender and Development’ course).

Understanding Sex and Gender impacts within pharmaceutical systems is critical to meet health and equity goals. This 2-3hr FREE introductory course has three modules that introduce you to key concepts, discusses these concepts in regard to pharmaceutical systems, and provides practical tools and considerations so that you can apply in your context. Specifically:

Module 1: How Sex and Gender Impact Health and Equity

Participants will be able to:

  • Define sex and gender
  • Give examples of how sex and how gender can impact health and equity
  • List components of a gender analysis
  • Give examples of how to improve equity based on sex and gender

Module 2: The Role of Sex and Gender in Supply Chain Management, Pharmacovigilance, and Access to Commodities and Pharmaceutical Services

Participants will be able to:

  • Give examples of how sex and gender impacts pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacovigilance systems
  • Name sex and gender factors that affects practices and decisions in supply and distribution of medical products
  • List specifics that must be included in a gender analysis specific to pharmaceutical systems strengthening

Module 3: Gender Main Streaming in Health Planning

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify gender issues that are related to the gendered pathways in health outcomes
  • Describe how gender mainstreaming strategies are applied in health
  • Formulate a gender responsive program, activity, or project using the health planning checklist.
