Hello! All,
During the national measles vaccination campaign that will be conducted
from 18 to 27 August 2005 in Côte d'Ivoire, we have procured about 10
million 0.5 ml AD syringes BD SOLOSHOT IX. These syringes will have to be
destroyed after use according to WHO norms. For a massive destruction of
this material, we have contacted various enterprises, the main one being
PALMCI that produces oil from palm seeds. To produce electricity it uses
pressed-seed fibers burnt at over 1000°C in a furnace. We requested the use
of their facilities for the incineration of our syringes. PALMCI agrees in
principle but is asking for replies to the following questions that I would
like to submit to you:
1/ Thermic caracteristics of the different materials included in the syringe :
- Incineration temperature (transformation into ashes) of the syringe,
including the needle.
- Calorific properties of the different materials of the syringe
including the safety box.
2/ Chemical properties of the smoke produced by the incineration of
syringes and safety boxes.
Your contributions will be greatly appreciated.
Godiskine Attemene
