Hepatitis B vaccine

To the editor: The paper by Francis and associates (1) in this issue shows the safety and efficacy of inactivated hepatitis B vaccine in a large multi-center trial. A disturbing finding is the lower than expected immunogenicity of the vaccine. Factors that could affect the potency of the vaccine were carefully examined. The purpose of this letter is to summarize those findings.
