Got a question on the Effective Vaccine Management (EVM) assessment tool? Or the continuous improvement planning (cIP) process? Now’s your chance to ask.

The EVM assessment and cIP development and tracking tools have been instrumental in helping more than 100 countries to strengthen their immunization supply chains. Over 220 EVM assessments have been used to design and implement continuous improvement plans (cIPs) that systematically address areas of weaknesses at each supply chain level, from the national vaccine store to health clinics providing immunization services. Explore the consolidated scores for all EVM2 assessments.

In this interactive and informal session, EVM and cIP experts from WHO and UNICEF, as well as consultants and implementing partners, will be available to answer your questions, whether they are high-level (What is EVM? What is the cIP? Why should a country do one? How can I start planning an EVM assessment? Can I conduct an EVM assessment or develop a cIP for my own facility? What tools are available to develop and track country cIPs) or highly technical (how are EVM requirements weighted and scored? How many locations can be swapped in a sample? Can I use EVM for supportive supervision?)

Submit your questions in advance using the form below, or ask them during the event itself.

The event will take place on April 15, 2025 01:00 PM CEST

Please join us for an illuminating and informative session, where we hope to clarify any how to conduct EVM assessments and how to develop, successfully implement, and track cIPs to improve immunization supply chains.

While doing the EVM assessment what percentage is allocated to cover the remote health facilities to get the broder aspect of the assessment result.

Hi

The EVM site selection methodology works as follows.

Districts (LD) are selected using population-based systematic random sampling - the probability of selection is proportional to the population.

One or more health facilities are then randomly selected in each of the selected districts, the number being equal to the number of times the district was selected.

In that way, the probability of any health facility, remote or not, being selected is proportional to:

population of district / number of health facilities in the district = average population served by a health facility in the district

Within a single district, all health facilities have the same probability of being selected, remote or not, large population or high.

So, there are likely to be more remote health facilities in the sample than their population would merit.

Best, P

Hi all, many thanks to those who attended the AMA session on EVM and cIP. It was a fantastic debut for the new format.

The recording is now available on YouTube here:

A summary of the Q&A will be available shortly and cover the following questions:

  • How can the quality of data collection and entry in EVM 2.0 be ensured, and what data quality assurance measures are used during EVM assessments to ensure accuracy and reliability, such as supervision, audits, or data verification?
  • In EVM 1, we used hard copies to double-check data if needed. In EVM 2, since data is collected online, how can we check it after it has been entered?
  • How can we ensure that the EVM assessment is established as a core requirement for improving the performance of national immunization programs within health policy frameworks?
  • How are service points selected during national assessments? Is the sampling random or probability-based? Proportional to the target population? Are the same facilities reassessed in multiple EVM rounds, for example, in Gavi-supported countries?
  • How can stakeholders outside of immunization programs be strategically engaged to provide central support? And how can operational levels (districts, local government areas) be better supported, given that this is where beneficiaries are ultimately served?
  • Does the tool assess or record information about the number and/or type of healthcare workers at each service point?
  • Did the EVM 1.0 assessment record GPS coordinates at the service point level?
  • How can a small community district EVM assessment be conducted, and how can a CIP be developed and monitored at the subnational level? Is there a tool for this?
  • What if remote or underrepresented areas are not included in the national EVM cluster? Can additional health centers be assessed, and how would that be reflected in the EVM results and CIP?
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses of the EVM 2.0 tool? What do users like most, and what aspects could be improved?

There was one other question that was asked but we were unable to answer due to time constraints:

  • What are the opportunities for exchanging best practices between countries in the region or globally, that could serve as models for improving EVM in Bosnia and Herzegovina?

This is a good question, and a great idea for a future webinar series! In the meantime, some options for the exchanging best practices are:

Hope this helps :-)

Hi everyone,

As promised, we’ve compiled a Q&A document that includes all the questions discussed during the session, along with the responses provided by our experts.

You can access the Q&A document here: https://www.technet-21.org/en/resources/report/ask-me-anything-on-evm-and-cip-q-a-report

We hope this serves as a useful reference and helps continue the conversation around EVM 2.0 and cIP implementation. If you have further questions, comments, or experiences to share, feel free to reply to this post. Let’s keep the discussion going!

Dear colleagues,

The video recording of our 'Ask me anything' session about EVM and cIP is available here in English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLqDMul8XEY&t=3s

We are excited to announce it is also available as a podcast episode on our newly created Spotify channel. Don't forget to follow the TechNet podcast for more immunization-related events and content from TechNet!
