    New VillageReach Op-ed

    Hello Everyone,

VillageReach has published a new op-ed. The article argues that as Gavi enters a more constrained financing era under Gavi 6.0, success will depend on shifting from expansion to prioritization while putting country voice, transparency, and meaningful consultation at the center of decision‑making. It calls on Gavi, governments, and partners to move beyond simply allocating tighter budgets and instead provide clarity, genuine engagement, and sustained technical support so countries can make informed, country‑driven choices for immunization programs. You can read the article here

    Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share a new op-ed, co-authored by Last Mile Health and VillageReach, that highlights how community health workers (CHWs) are driving meaningful improvements in vaccine access across Africa — especially for zero-dose and under-immunized children.

The piece, published on Gavi’s VaccinesWork blog, features examples from Liberia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and the DRC, showing how CHWs are expanding vaccine education, supporting demand generation, identifying zero‑dose children, and even contributing directly to the administration and uptake of new vaccines like the malaria vaccine.

You can read it here: https://bit.ly/4rClDGQ

CHWs are uniquely positioned to boost the reach of preventive healthcare – but to do that, they need more support.

I thought this perspective might be particularly relevant to this forum.

What are your experiences with invovling CHWs in immunization services? How do you see them typically being used? And do you see opportunities for…

VillageReach just published a new brief calling for expanding CHWs' role in immunization services. From outreach to planning to vaccine administration CHWs can help reach more people with vaccines.

What CHW centric approaches have you seen work well in your work?

What approaches would you like to see scaled and funded?

Access to primary health care remains a challenge for many under-reached communities in Africa. About 615 million people are outside the reach of essential health services, including health products such as medicines, vaccines, medical devices, diagnostics, protective equipment and assistive devices. Among the most underreached are millions of zero-dose and under-immunized children, who represent not just a missed opportunity for individual health and well-being but a broader failure to protect public health. Ensuring that health products are delivered safely depends on effective and efficient supply chain systems. This requires supply chain systems that can deliver products and services responsively, adapt to changes in demand, absorb shocks and stresses and routinely factor in the needs and preferences of under-reached communities.

A high-performing, integrated supply chain ensures that essential health products reach underreached communities and improves health care access. The…
