AIRA's COVID-19 Response Update

Greetings,

As we look forward to kicking off summer, it’s promising to realize the progress made in a short number of months to protect our communities through the Herculean COVID-19 vaccination campaign that has reached over 60% of the US adult population and has just begun for adolescents.

With the hope of a return to “normal,” AIRA is working with our partners and the IIS community on various initiatives to take lessons from COVID-19 and apply them not only to the ongoing pandemic efforts, but also to routine immunization moving forward. This month, AIRA continued to support jurisdictions by expanding connections to the Immunization (IZ) Gateway and hosted a four-week Tableau training course, a virtual Measurement for Assessment and Certification Advisory Workgroup (MACAW) meeting focused on measuring provider participation, and two Discovery Sessions focused on the programmatic aspects and technical aspects of vaccine credentialing solutions.

We look forward to continuing to support the efforts of the COVID-19 response while we also work with all our partners on strategies to shape the future of IIS.

Rebecca Coyle, MSEd
Executive Director

Join Us at the AIRA 2021 National Meeting!

The AIRA 2021 National Meeting will be a hybrid meeting with both in-person and virtual components offered August 3–5 in Portland, Oregon.

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to visit the National Meeting website to:

This year’s meeting will include the opportunity to collaborate and share lessons learned about the pandemic with other people who’ve been through it and understand the challenges. We believe in-person attendance this year will be invaluable in that regard and strongly encourage those who can to attend in person.

Earlier this month, Rebecca Coyle, Mary Beth Kurilo, and Carmela Gupta visited Portland to assess the area and the meeting hotel. They’re happy to report that Portland is reopening and ready for visitors.

Landscape Analysis Report: Capture and Utilization of Adult Vaccination Data in IIS

We are pleased to share AIRA’s Landscape Analysis Report on the capture and utilization of adult vaccination data in IIS. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of capturing adult vaccination data in IIS in both routine and mass vaccination settings. This report aims to document the challenges, current approaches, and opportunities to capture adult vaccination records amid an ever-changing environment.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this work. This report was informed by extensive stakeholder engagement with the IIS community and lays the groundwork for the forthcoming Strategic Road Map that will provide implementation recommendations for advancing the capture and use of adult vaccination data on a national scale.

Please share this resource with relevant stakeholders. Contact Liz Abbott with any questions.

Collaborating with Medicaid to Improve Vaccination Rates: A Checklist for Immunization Program Managers

Strong partnership between Medicaid and immunization programs helps achieve the shared goals of eliminating vaccine-preventable disease and deploying the most cost-effective use of limited public resources. The Checklist for Immunization Program Managers is designed with input from experienced public health professionals and provides suggestions that immunization programs can use to overcome existing and new barriers related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please share the checklist with anyone who would benefit from this resource. If you have questions, contact Katelyn Wells.

Measurement and Improvement Updates

With all the amazing work happening across the community, we know approving and managing Aggregate Analysis Reporting Tool (AART) user access is not on the top of the priority list. However, many individuals have registered for access to AART, and, thanks to AART admins, we have seen very few requests waiting to be approved. Thank you!

As a reminder, we encourage AART admins to periodically review users who have access to view your program or organization’s IIS reports. Log in to AART and select “Settings” in the upper right-hand corner to review these users. Below the measurement and sharing settings, AART admins can see active users who have access to their IIS data, pending users, and authorized users. Click “Review” next to any user you want to look at. The image below will open and the AART admin can update the user’s access level.

Reminder: Those with an access level of admin will be able to set settings and approve users. The access level of staff is typically used for IIS program staff, and the access level of view is typically used for IIS vendors, electronic health records, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention users. If a user should not be approved, select inactive.

Updated reports
Quarter 1 2021: Log in to AART to find individual IIS Assessment and Validation reports. Updated aggregate Assessment and the first 2021 Validation reports are in the AIRA repository.

Have questions or need help? AIRA’s technical assistance team is ready to help you understand your AART dashboard and results, prioritize work, and support your movement toward better alignment with standards. Don’t hesitate to contact us for technical assistance. We can quickly answer a question or dive deeper into topics, such as assisting you and your IIS technical development team with better understanding of issues and making plans to more fully align with standards. Fill out a Technical Assistance Request or contact Kristi Siahaya for more information.
