Bulk Query Publications

The IIP is pleased to share two articles authored by IIP Executive Committee members Susan J. Kressly, M.D., FAAP, and Stuart T. Weinberg, M.D., FAAP, FAMIA. Both articles highlight the importance of bulk query functionality for immunization workflows from the clinician’s perspective.

 

The first article, Efficiently identify patients’ immunization status through bulk query, was written by Sue Kressly and published in “AAP News.” The second article, Improving Immunization Workflow for Providers – Bulk Query Functionality, co-authored by Stuart Weinberg and Damon Ferlazzo, was published by HIMSS.

National IG Release 1.6: Call for experts, influencers, and advisors

CDC, in collaboration with AIRA and NIST, is launching an Implementation Guide Expert Group in late spring 2023 to facilitate and contribute to the development of the national Release 1.6 of the Implementation Guide (IG) for Immunization Messaging.

 

Immunization community and IT professionals with HL7/IIS technical and immunization program subject matter expertise are invited to join the IG Expert Group to shape the next release.

Two-year Public Health Data Strategy released by CDC

Hello, AIRA community! CDC recently released a two-year Public Health Data Strategy (PHDS) that aims to improve access to and address the challenges with public health data. The PHDS is focused on accomplishing four key goals over the next two years. These goals support the primary public health missions focused on improving health outcomes equitably: 

  1. Strengthen the core of public health data
  2. Accelerate access to analytic and automated solutions to support public health investigations and advance health equity
  3. Visualize and share insights to inform public health action
  4. Advance more open and interoperable public health data 

To learn more about the PHDS and the essential role partners, including states, tribes, localities, and territories (STLTs), will play in driving success, visit the PHDS website.

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the public health workforce, leading to compassion fatigue and exhaustion. During this Discovery Session, Anne Schuchat, M.D., internist, and epidemiologist, whose career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spanned 33 years, will share approaches for building resiliency and preventing staff burnout in the IIS community. Participants will hear about:

  • The power of story, community, and people coming together to create change
  • The importance of IIS data and using data to inform public health decisions
  • Data modernization and the unique challenges in communicating immunization data
  • Using empathy in communication and maintaining partnerships that have been formed during COVID
  • Practicing resilience by engaging in self-care

Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email which contains links to add the meeting to your calendar.

The North Dakota IIS team is inquiring about third-party messaging engine options. They are looking at options to move away from their current custom-built messaging engine and are hoping you can provide some information to help guide them. Below is a list of questions from their project management and development teams. The North Dakota IIS team would appreciate any information you can provide or any resources you can point them to.

  • What third-party message engine options are currently available?
  • Do you know of any IIS using these options?
  • Are you aware of any issues observed with these options?
  • What has worked well with any of these options?
  • Do you have any information on the cost model for purchase/subscribe versus continued maintenance of a current custom-built solution?
  • Any difference in responsiveness to change in requirements/standards?
  • How much custom code (if any) is written for the purchased engines for a specific solution?
