IDAC Roundup and May Registration
|
|
The IIS Data Analyst Collaborative (IDAC) is a discussion-based offering where participants explore topics relevant to IIS data. Held quarterly on the third Thursday of the month from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, each session offers a space for conversation and peer learning. Participation is limited to encourage meaningful dialogue and to give both new and experienced analysts the chance to ask questions and share insights with the community.
Since February 2024, five IDAC sessions have been held. Topics, takeaway notes, and recordings from past sessions are listed below.
The next IDAC session will take place on May 15, 2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET. The discussion will focus on data cleansing, including improving demographics, fragmented records, issues with merging records, and the best ways to address “moved or gone elsewhere” (MOGE). To register for the event, follow the link here.
IDAC Session Resources:
Session takeaways and recordings are also posted to the IIS Data Analyst Forum (IDAF). IDAF is an online forum where people who work with IIS data can talk, access additional resources, check out publications, and post and answer questions.

Data Viz Tip of the Month

Power BI
There are many ways to show the same data, but some visualizations are better suited than others for the task at hand. Start by thinking about the narrative you want to tell, and choose the chart type that communicates your data most accurately and clearly.
Here are some common options:
- Pie or donut chart to compare each value’s proportional size against the whole series
- Column or bar chart to compare the difference between multiple values
- Line or area chart to see the difference between values
- Waterfall chart to highlight how individual components contribute to a total change
- Timeline or time series chart for categories that are based on units of time
- Network chart for categorical data that has an intricate hierarchy of subcategories
As a best practice, have a colleague review your chart to ensure it’s easy to interpret and tells the story you intend.
