2024 SISC Technical Small Groups
|
|
As part of national efforts to provide additional clarity on national specifications to support the interoperability of immunization information between systems and contribute to the next evolution of the HL7 Implementation Guide (IG), the Standards and Interoperability Steering Committee (SISC) approved topics for two technical small groups.
These small groups rely on community champions and volunteers to contribute subject matter expertise and work closely with AIRA and CDC over a four-week period to produce Technical Advisory Bulletins (TABs) on Patient Names and ACK Messages.
- Patient Names Small Group (October 21 – November 22)
- This TAB will address legal names, baby names, preferred names, and special characters.
- Kickoff Session: week of October 21
- Working Session: week of November 4
- ACK Messages Small Group (November 4 – December 13)
- This TAB will address improvements to ACK messages that may be included in the Health Data, Technology, and Interoperability: Patient Engagement, Information Sharing, and Public Health Interoperability (HTI-2) proposed rule.
- Kickoff Session: week of November 4
- Working Session: week of November 18

Register for AIRA’s October Discovery Session: Insights from 20 Million Immunization Data Exchanges Between VA and IIS
|
|
Join us for the next AIRA Discovery Session on Monday, October 28, from 4 to 5 p.m. ET to hear about lessons learned on immunization data exchange after 20 million immunization messages were exchanged. The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has been exchanging, tracking, and analyzing immunization messages to understand the reasons behind data exchange successes and failures. This presentation will share VA’s findings and will allow the audience to hear from the Ohio IIS, which has the highest data exchange success rate with VA. There will be time for questions and answers at the end of the webinar.
|
Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email with links to add the meeting to your calendar.
If you’re unable to attend, this session will be recorded and available in the AIRA Repository. We hope you’ll join us on October 28!

Important Changes Ahead: Smarty License Upgrade
|
|
Important changes are coming to the Smarty address cleansing service license currently provided by AIRA to members through a partner agreement. Beginning late November 2024, AIRA’s license will be upgraded from the legacy Standard Edition of the US Address Verification service to the Core Edition of the US Address Verification service. This transition to the Core Edition provides additional benefits, including enhanced matching and access to 20 million non-USPS addresses. Non-postal addresses are locations where people live and work. These addresses are places where USPS does not deliver mail but where packages can be delivered.
Once the license upgrade is complete, Smarty users will need to update their API call to Smarty. We will share more detailed information in the coming weeks so please stay tuned for more updates as we begin the transition to the updated service!
