Celebrating WHO SEARO's immunization success

SEAROImmunization featured prominently at the 79th session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia (RC79). According to the latest WHO and Unicef estimates, the region now has the highest routine immunization coverage among all six who regions.

The event also recognized several achievements:

  • India: Sustained elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus.

  • Nepal: Rubella elimination, becoming the sixth country in the Region to achieve this milestone.

  • Bhutan, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Maldives and Timor-Leste: Sustained measles elimination.

These achievements reflect the dedication of health workers, strong health systems, reliable vaccine supplies, community trust and political commitment. However, continued efforts are essential, particularly during emergencies, humanitarian crises and natural disasters, when vulnerable communities face the greatest risks.

WHO thanked Gavi for its longstanding partnership with Member States and WHO in advancing equity, country leadership and protection for vulnerable communities.
