Immunization@JSI: Building Equitable & Strong Health Systems

JANUARY 2023

Equitable Immunization Systems for Better Health Outcomes

In 2021, 25 million children missed essential vaccines, in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our approach to supporting immunization programs are locally led, embedding experts who are focused on equitable recovery for all communities. We are partnering with countries—using digital solutions, behavioral interventions, and other innovative approaches—to build equitable and strong health systems that increase people’s well-being.

Applying Behavioral Science to Increase Vaccination Rates in Kathmandu

With an estimated 50,000 zero-dose children in Nepal, it is critical to understand the behavioral and social drivers of vaccine uptake. Read our recent findings from a rapid inquiry published on the Gavi Vaccines Work, conducted by a team from the Behavioral Science Center led by Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences with support from JSI and UNICEF Nepal.

Exploring the Potential of Barcode Technology to Improve Supply Chain

A new JSI project is helping Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance’s Market Shaping team, assess the benefits, challenges, and feasibility of implementing barcodes in vaccine supply chains in low-and middle-income countries. This builds on our past work to assess the potential benefits of using barcodes on secondary and primary vaccine packaging.

Addressing Insufficient Funding to Reach Zero-Dose Children and Missed Communities

Learn more about obstacles to reaching zero-dose children and missed communities, and routine immunization services and strategies to reach them.

A WORLD FREE OF CERVICAL CANCER

INCREASING COVID-19 VACCINATION RATES

Enabling Agile COVID-19 Response in Burkina Faso

Strengthening data entry through the connection of 2,803 tablets made it possible to register more than 473,000 vaccinated people into the country’s ms-Surveillance platform and print health passes. As part of the Ministry of Health’s vaccination campaign in Burkina Faso, the Country Health Information Systems and Data Use program provided 70 health districts connection credits. Learn more.

COVID-19 Country Program in Review: Vietnam

The MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project in Vietnam contributed to increased immunization service delivery and resource forecasting expertise at local levels. It also built trust in coordination systems that may be used for other vaccine campaigns and health interventions. Read the country program in review.
