Executive Director's Update

In July, we were able to come together virtually and in-person to continue to strengthen our systems and our community. Over the past two months, we’ve enjoyed meeting with IIS managers to eat lunch together (virtually), learn from one another, and develop new relationships. This fall, we will explore new ways to bring the IIS manager community together to continue to collaborate on important topics. In addition to meeting virtually, groups have also begun to meet in person. AIRA staff attended the 2022 NACCHO360 Conference July 19–21 in Atlanta. AIRA staff led a discussion titled “Immunization Data Quality: Interventions, Monitoring and Outputs,” which focused on data-quality tools and resources that could potentially be used across other areas of public health. AIRA staff also joined five technology partners for the immunization demonstration of the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase. At the end of July, the Measurement for Assessment and Certification Advisory Workgroup (MACAW) met in person in Minneapolis to advance the work of the Measurement and Improvement Initiative. To learn more about the meeting, check out the article below

As we near back-to-school season, I would encourage you to explore the educational opportunities coming soon from AIRA. The new Provider Organization Onboarding for IIS course will be offered on a weekly basis from September 7 to October 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. ET. You can read about the course in the next article. We will have additional courses, webinars, and workgroups to announce over the coming weeks, so stay tuned and start sharpening your pencils.

I hope you all get to enjoy some fun in the sun over the next few weeks.

Rebecca Coyle, MSEd

Executive Director

Provider Organization Onboarding for IIS

Register now!
AIRA’s Onboarding Shared Services (OSS) team is excited to offer the Provider Organization Onboarding for IIS course to the IIS community! This course was created to help build or enhance participants’ capacity to conduct onboarding in alignment with best practices. Six one-hour sessions will be offered on a weekly basis from September 7 to October 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. ET. The course includes a deep dive into each step of the onboarding process, including best practices and implementation considerations associated with each step, and provides program staff and managers with key information and resources needed to understand and support provider onboarding. Participants can register here or visit AIRA’s Onboarding Shared Services-Onboarding Training webpage for more information. Registration will close August 19. For questions, please email Sarah Wible

In case you’re interested, we piloted the course!
AIRA’s OSS team recently piloted the Provider Organization Onboarding for IIS course. Twenty participants representing eight jurisdictions participated in twice-weekly sessions for three weeks from June 7 to June 23. After completion of the six sessions, a course evaluation was filled out by 13 (65%) participants. One hundred percent of respondents either agreed or strongly agreed the course was high-quality and would recommend the course to a colleague. Thank you to our IIS participants from American Samoa, District of Columbia, Guam, New Hampshire, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon, Virgin Islands, and Wyoming

Immunization Integration Program Highlighted in Health IT Buzz

The Immunization Integration Program (IIP) was pleased to be mentioned in an article in Health IT Buzz, a blog by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). The article, “New Testing Method Available for Standardized API Criterion,” references the IIP’s Testing and Recognition initiative as an alternative test method for ONC’s (f)(1) Transmission to immunization registries certification criterion. In addition to offering EHRs a pathway to (f)(1) certification, the IIP facilitates the adoption of high-priority immunization-related capabilities and workflows to improve clinical decision making and information sharing with IIS.

The IIP was previously highlighted in a 2017 Health IT Buzz post when the IIP was approved as an alternative testing method. For more information, please contact Melissa McClung, IIP director
