KHEL: Knowledge on Health, Education and Learning through community games

The games people play can enhance learning. ‘Khel’ translates into game or play in Hindi. KHEL, Knowledge on Health, Education and Learning through community games, is a short documentary film made by the Johns Hopkins Maternal and Child Health Center India (MCHI) and the Child In Need Institute (CINI). It illustrates how social and behavior change can occur when people evaluate the roles they play in their communities and come together for a universally desirable health outcome. Learn more here.

Understanding determinants of vaccine hesitancy and acceptance in India: A qualitative study of government officials and civil society stakeholders
Authors include Daniel J. Erchick , Molly Sauer, Amelia Gerste, Taylor A. Holroyd, Brian Wahl, Mathuram Santosham, and Rupali J. Limaye
This paper published in PLOS One conducted a study to better understand the drivers of vaccine hesitancy in India. Their study demonstrated the equal importance of contextual and vaccine-specific influences.
Duration of effectiveness of vaccination against COVID-19 caused by the omicron variant
Authors include Melissa M Higdon, Anurima Baidya, Karoline K Walter, Minal K Patel, Daniel R Feikin, and Maria Deloria Knoll
A new publication published in The Lancet Lancet Infectious Diseases involved a review of the duration of protection against Omicron infection offered by primary and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The study found that vaccine protection one month after a booster shot is generally higher than after a primary vaccine, and vaccine effectiveness against the Omicron variant remained strong 4 months after booster doses.
Effects of local faith-actor engagement in the uptake and coverage of immunization in low- and middle-income countries: A literature review
Authors include Chizoba Wonodi
This landscape review from MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, published in the Christian Journal for Global Health, found extensive evidence supporting the value of religious engagement for immunization promotion and acceptance in lower- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Yet rigorous evidence and specific approaches for engaging local faith actors to strengthen immunization uptake in LMICs are limited. As countries urgently work to expand access to COVID-19 vaccinations, this study advances understanding of how to more effectively engage local faith actors in promoting immunization campaigns and addressing vaccine hesitancy.
Leveraging a national biorepository in Zambia to assess measles and rubella immunity gaps across age and space
Authors include Andrea C. Carcelen, Amy K. Winter, William J. Moss, Kyla Hayford, and Simon Mutembo
This article, published in the Scientific Reports, describes innovative methods for sampling residual sera and analyzing measles and rubella seroprevalence data, as well as the value of seroprevalence estimates to better understand and control measles and rubella. The findings reveal that despite a successful childhood vaccination program in Zambia, measles immunity gaps persisted across age groups and districts, indicating the need for additional activities to complement routine immunization.
